Ata Atsu

The tribe with which The Demon is staying participates in a tradition centered around an entity named Ata Atsu. They believe he was a man who transcended the cycle of life and death and exists now in this elevated state.

In the tradition of this tribe, they drink what they call the planet’s blood in order to receive “sight beyond sight.” They hoist a horn symbolizing his power, and they speak to Ata Atsu, asking that he grant them the strength and wisdom he received from his mother and father, which are soil and stone.

There is an allusion to reincarnation in the ritual as well, when the mystic refers to their ancestors, “who we were also,” and the seem to desire a final birth into the transcendent state Ata Atsu has reached.
